Experts recommend that drivers avoid leaving certain items in the car when winter is approaching.

According to the “Daily Record”, in the cold winter, aerosols and medicines are just some of the items that drivers should ensure to remove from the car.

It is also recommended that all drivers keep an emergency "winter car kit" in their vehicles, which contains items such as de-icers and battery packs.

Mark Barclay from GFS Car Parts said: “As the weather gets colder, we should pay attention to what can’t be left in our car. Electronic equipment such as mobile phones and laptops, instruments, and any pressurized items (Such as aerosols and canned goods) brought indoors.

"However, it is also important to remember what you should put in the car. When driving in cold conditions, carry a'winter car kit' with you.

"This should include cell phone chargers or battery packs (which can be safely stored in a mobile, warm car), ice scrapers and de-icers.

"Sunglasses are also a good choice in the harsh winter sun, but once the car gets cold after the engine is turned off, please bring them indoors to prevent cracking.

"Finally, drive with an empty fuel tank in winter. This way, if you run out of gas, you can walk to the nearest garage and fill up your car. Take some simple measures and bring things with you before they are damaged. Now, you can spend a safe and happy time on the road this winter."

GFS Car Parts lists five items that you should not leave in the car during the severe cold.

The iPhone has a feature that warns the user when the device is too hot or too cold.

This is because smartphones, tablets, laptops, and PCs all have an ambient temperature range that allows them to perform optimally.

Most Apple devices work optimally when the ambient temperature is between 0 and 35 degrees Celsius-for reference, the average temperature of our body is 37 degrees Celsius.

Therefore, if you leave your phone or computer in the car and the temperature outside the car drops below zero, you may experience problems such as shortened battery life or even shutting down the device.

The best way to avoid this situation is to only put electronic devices in the car when you are using it, because it will be warmer in the car.

Take your work laptop, cell phone and any other equipment with you when you get out of the car.

Those who take medicine regularly should be very careful not to leave it in the car when the temperature drops.

Although many drugs do not necessarily become harmful when refrigerated, it is difficult to assess whether they will work as expected.

However, as far as insulin is concerned, the impact is even greater. Unopened insulin vials should be stored in the refrigerator, and opened vials should be stored at room temperature.

However, if insulin freezes, it will become ineffective and will not lower your blood sugar as it should.

Therefore, if you take insulin, please bring it into your body. Once it is frozen, do not use it even if it is thawed.

Some people also report that injecting frozen insulin can be painful, so even if the temperature does not drop to the freezing point, it will affect the drug.

Extremely hot or cold weather can have a considerable impact on aerosol products. If they become too cold, they will become unstable or even explode.

The same is true for canned food. The water used to preserve canned food swells in cold weather, causing the can to explode as the pressure increases.

These items should not be stored in garages or sheds, as both places will be affected by the same temperature drop as the car. Instead, store these items in the kitchen and keep them at room temperature.

If you play musical instruments made of wood, you probably already know that the ambient temperature will affect them.

Colder temperatures will shrink the wood, which is why in winter, you often find that the guitar, violin or cello tends to go out of tune as the instrument gets cold.

However, leaving these instruments in the car in cold weather can cause the wood to crack, so it is definitely worth bringing them indoors after a performance, practice or improvisation.

Store them away from the radiator so that their surrounding environment will not be affected by extreme changes in cold or heat.

During the recent fuel shortages in certain parts of the UK, you may find it tricky to keep your car's tank full of gasoline all the time.

However, if possible, keeping the fuel tank above half full can prevent the gasoline from freezing, making your journey in the morning easier.

Checking the amount of gasoline in the car is also the best time to quickly check the tire pressure, because sometimes colder weather can cause the car's tire pressure to drop.
