A Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) atrocities victim, Okoli Agwu Abunike, yesterday accused a police lawyer of slapping him when he went to Panti police station to serve court documents. And threatened to file a separate petition against the lawyers in the group.

Okoli said he was surprised that a lawyer who had this problem with him took the liberty to appear before the panel. He made these allegations when he was cross-examined in a petition submitted to the Lagos State Judicial Team, claiming that he was tortured by SARS for 48 days.

Agwu, who lives in the Okokomaiko area of Lagos, told of his ordeal that he was abused and treated roughly by SARS agents. He said that two of his teeth were pulled out by the disbanded police force.

He said: "I worked as a manager for a company for four and a half years. After I resigned, my boss invited me to certify my resignation. When I got there, my boss asked me to be taken by the police from the Ayutthaya Police Department. Arrested.

"I was later taken to the Ikeja Police Command, where I was brutally treated by the inspectors on Sunday, who are usually called Baba Ijapa and ASP Haruna. I was labelled a liar and beaten on the Alaba International Market , Was seriously injured, dehumanized and dragged away. I was also taken to my church and was ashamed in front of the congregation for the offense I knew nothing about.

"Under the instructions of my boss, I was detained for 48 days. A bucket full of cement was tied to my back. I had bruises all over and my two teeth were pulled out. The police beat me. My wife and mother threatened to kill me if I did not admit to embezzling company funds.

"They took all my property. They confiscated my house and sold my car to make up for the money they said I was embezzled. My boss also threatened that if I didn't return all the money I stole, Just kill me.

"The case was heard by Ibrahim Buba, a judge of the Federal High Court, who awarded the police 10 million naira in damages. But between 2016 and 2020, I saw nothing. . They did not comply with the verdict.

"They sold my land and car. In fact, the person to whom the land was sold dragged me to the district court in Badakri, and the magistrate remanded me in Kpotopiri prison for three days because I could not meet the N50. 000 fine. I want to appeal to this glorious group to force the police to comply with the court’s decision and return all my property or pay for the damage, because everything I live to support my family has been lost."

Earlier, Okoli obtained two separate court verdicts against the police, but said that the police did not comply with the court verdicts.
