Shakti Mohan is a dancer par excellence and an accomplished choreographer. Her art takes her places, quite literally. Over the years, she has curated shows and performed in many parts of the world. So, it is no surprise that traveling has come to hold a special place in her passion list!

Being an ardent nature lover, Shakti could never have imagined that visiting a city could be a fascinating experience by itself until she discovered Dubai during a shoot. After wrapping up her work, she decided to extend her stay and explore the city with her friends. What followed was an exhilarating saga of fun, adventure and elation! Shakti has shared her memorable experiences in a podcast which she has created in collaboration with Dubai Tourism, naming it When in Dubai with Shakti Mohan. It has been published as part of a series of podcasts on Dubai’s touristry, on gaana.com. For all those who are planning a trip to Dubai either with family, friends or even solo, this podcast, available by clicking here is not to be missed!

Shakti had barely stepped out of the airport and the sight of enormous skyscrapers captivated her! A massive lineup of architectural wonders, as though they were competing among one another on the score of magnificence. Out came the cameras and phones and the star struck tourists wasted no time in shooting videos and making vlogs along their journey from the airport to the hotel. The rooms booked for them in Waldorf Astoria provided a heavenly view of the ocean. With delectable food and the excellent service of staff, it was truly home away from home for the entire troupe!

Shakti is a true blue Indian with regard to her culinary preferences. Although she enjoys other cuisines, her meals have to be Dal, Chalwal, Roti and the likes. And she has a big sweet tooth! So, she was delighted to find Indian food served everywhere, even according to her tastes. She thronged Haldirams, Saravana Bhavan and other Indian restaurants with her friends and had the yummiest of sweet treats at The Cheesecake Factory. She fondly reminisces that the tastiest meals and immaculate service were also very budget friendly.

Being a nature lover, Shakti has an unquenchable thirst for watching sunrises and sunsets, especially at beaches which enables her to become one with nature. So, she had a gala time playing in the sand, walking and dancing in gleeful abandon at the JBR beach. She laughingly recalls going on a quad biking spree, much to her friends’ dread! But their dread turned into exhilaration when they were taken on a desert safari at dizzying speeds on vast stretches of desert with sands splashing them and middle eastern music further pumping up their adrenaline! The cultural programmes and dance performances in the evening made it an invigorating episode of their adventure.

Shakti also got to fulfil her long time wish of visiting Burj Khalifa. Her excitement is palpable when she describes watching the world below from a height of over four hundred meters! Words fall short to elucidate the spectacle, the phenomenal view and no amount of pictures and videos can do justice to it. Although they had intended to have high tea, they were served a variety of fancy beverages and an extensive selection of vegan sandwiches. The most mind blowing of them all was the golden coffee which just crazed them out!

While still reeling under the impact of views from the top of the world, Shakti and her cohorts decided to take their experience a notch higher and dine at Dinner In The Sky. With tables suspended by a crane fifty meters high in the sky, diners strapped to their chairs, their feet dangling in the air, wind blowing in their face and amazing food served by ever smiling chefs, Shakti says she became an excited little girl, ogling at everything and taking endless pictures of this extravaganza of adventure!

And Dubai sojourn is not complete without indulging in some retail therapy! Shakti bought a lot of clothes, accessories, makeup products, workout gears and kids’ wear for her family, her team and herself with the most memorable of them all being buying jewellery for the first time for her mother. She talks about being spoiled for choice at The Dubai Mall with unending varieties in all categories. But she found all the products to be authentic, of superb quality and highly affordable. Her valuable advice to all the listeners is, save money and splurge in Dubai!

Underneath all those adventures, beautiful views and experiences, Dubai is, at its core, defined by its people who are the embodiment of warmth and hospitality. Shakti found this to be true in every local person she met and interacted with. Right from the staff at their hotel and places they visited to their cab drivers who waited while they explored a location, all of them genuinely intended for her and her friends to have a memorable time. Even though they were an all-girls team, they never felt the need to have any concern for their safety and wellbeing. And that ultimately made her vacation in Dubai unforgettable!

Shakti’s expedition in Dubai is quintessentially what every vacationer plans for which is what makes it very relatable. To know about her escapades in detail, do listen to her podcast by clicking here
